Manchester City destroyed Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium as they continued their push for a 5th Premier League title under Pep Guardiola.

Manchester City spanked Jurgen Klopp and his boys 4-1 in a game in which City enjoyed 69 percent of the ball possession and Liverpool made do with just 31 percent.

Even though Erling Haaland, City’s 42-goal scorer was ruled out due to a groin injury, the Premier League defending champions showed their overall strength by rallying from a goal down against a Liverpool team that has historically been a challenge for them to win convincingly.

After 17 minutes, Liverpool caught City off guard with a counterattack to take the lead. Diogo Jota made the break, and Mohamed Salah scored with a powerful finish.

After 27 minutes, Julian Alvarez equalized for City thanks to Jack Grealish, who made a critical intervention on Salah when Liverpool had the potential to extend their lead.

53 seconds after the first-half break, City took the lead thanks to an assist from Alvarez. His raking pass found Riyad Mahrez, who then crossed for Kevin de Bruyne to score City’s second goal of the game.

With City in complete control, Ilkay Gundogan added the third goal following a fight in the goalmouth.

Grealish earned himself a goal in the 74th minute when he came just in time to turn in a cross from De Bruyne as Liverpool lost 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

City’s victory over Liverpool has reduced Arsenal’s gap to just 5 points temporarily, pending the outcome of Arsenal’s game against Leeds United later today, at 15:00 (3 PM WAT). Note that City still have a game in hand which could be an advantage for coach Guardiola in the title race.
