Nigeria defeated Ghana by a score of 62 runs in their third match of the Nigeria Cricket Federation Women’s Invitational currently taking place in Lagos.

The Ghanaian team won the toss and decided to field in the match on Friday at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval.

Two reliable Nigerian scorers, Salome Sunday 27(18) and Agatha Obulor 25(34), helped keep the scoreboard busy after the game’s slow start.

The hosts eventually scored 120 runs in 20 overs while only losing four wickets.

Rasidatu Salia (20/29) and Komalpreet Grewal (11/23) both tried their hardest to help Ghana get to the mark in the second innings but were unsuccessful.

Nigerian spinners Racheal Samson (4/18) and Peculiar Agboya (2/18) held their West African opponents to 58 for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs in order to defeat the Ghanaian squad.

As it stands, Ghana have been eliminated from the competition after falling to Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, and Nigeria in every game.

After their defeat to Nigeria, the captain of Ghana’s team, Rhyda Ofori, “We lost all our matches in the tournament, but it’s not the end of Women’s cricket in Ghana.

“We have learnt some lessons here and we will take it home and improve on our game. Hopefully, we will come back better and stronger”.

On Saturday, the host nation Nigeria will play Rwanda, while Sierra Leone will face Cameroon in the final group match.

The invitational which began on Monday, is scheduled to end on Sunday, April 2.
