JUST IN: Vehicle Conveying Prisoners Involves In Accident In Osun

A correctional centre truck reportedly conveying prison inmates to the State High Court in Osun State was involved in an accident on Thursday, Naija News learnt.

The incident has caused palpable tension in Osogbo, the state capital, as the truck reportedly rammed into a commercial minibus, injuring two persons.

Commercial motorcyclists and some angry youths in the area are said to have staged protests due to the occurrence, blocking the popular Olaiya Junction in protest.

An eyewitness who spoke to The PUNCH revealed that the correctional truck driver refused to obey a traffic light that had signalled him to stop and, in the process, hit a minibus, leaving the driver and one of the passengers injured.

When this report was filed, Police drafted to the scene had dispersed the protesters with teargas.

Armed Herdsmen Invade Oyo School, Injure Students, Teachers

In another news, on Thursday, some suspected herdsmen invaded the Community Grammar School, Alaropo Nla, in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Upon arrival at the school, the herders, numbering about 20, unleashed their animals to feed on the school premises, and attempts by the teachers and students to resist them resulted in attacks.

Naija News gathered that the herders inflicted machete and sword cuts and other wounds on some teachers and students who tried to resist them.

An eyewitness account narrated by Vanguard stated that the school had just finished its morning assembly. Students were preparing to settle in their classrooms to continue their second-term examination when the herders invaded the school farm with their cows.

One of the teachers who suffered injuries during the attack was identified as Mr Paul Olabode, while many others were left with broken legs and hands.

The school principal, Mrs Grace Alamu, was quoted to have confirmed the attack in a telephone call, adding that the matter has been reported to the Police.

“I am on my way to the school. Policemen are coming to the school this morning,” she said.

Attempts to confirm the invasion and attack from the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Adewale Osifeso, were unsuccessful as of press time.
