24 People Die In Tragic Road Accident In Niger State

No fewer than twenty-four (24) people died in a tragic road crash on Monday night in Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State, Naija News learnt.

It was gathered that the accident occurred at about 10:10 pm along Bida-Mokwa Road yesterday. Reports said the truck involved was conveying eighty-seven (87) passengers and was heading to Lagos from Zaria when the accident happened.

Confirming the tragic accident, the sector commander of the Niger State Sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kumar Tsukwan, told reporters on Tuesday that the accident happened in Etsu-Woro village.

“Twenty-four passengers travelling from Zaria to Lagos died in an auto crash involving a truck carrying 87 people at Etsu-Woro village in Lavun local government area of Niger state,” Tsukwan told The PUNCH.

He explained further that 17 males, four females and four children died in the lone Sino truck accident, adding that 45 others were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.

The FRSC boss also stated that the corpses had been deposited in the mortuary.

“The victims were evacuated from the site of the accident to the general hospital in Kutigi for medical attention while the corpse was deposited at the mortuary in Kutigi,” Tsukwan reportedly said.

Gunmen Kill Three NSCDC Personnel In Imo

Meanwhile, three personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were killed in Imo State on Monday, allegedly by gunmen.

Naija News learnt that the incident happened at EkeIsu market in Obiangwu Community in the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of the state.

A source in the community that spoke with Punch disclosed that the NSCDC operatives were attacked in the early hours of Monday. According to the source, the NSCDC personnel were riding in a vehicle when they were ambushed and killed by the gunmen.

The source revealed that security agencies have taken over the community.

A further report has it that the victims’ lifeless bodies were still at the scene as of the time of filing this report.

The source said, “Three operatives of the NSCDC were killed last night at EkeIsu market in Obiangwu Community in the Ngor Okpala LGA of Imo State. They were ambushed while in their vehicle. Their bodies have not been evacuated as we speak. Soldiers have taken over the community.”
