Super Eagles of Nigeria head coach, Jose Peseiro, has asserted that his team would defeat Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau in Bissau today, March 27.

Naija News recalls that Guinea Bissau defeated the Super Eagles of Nigeria 1-0 at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Friday in the first leg of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The defeat took Nigeria from the first spot to the second spot with 6 points, a point behind first-placed Guinea Bissau.

To stand a chance of qualifying for the 2023 AFCON which will be held in Ivory Coast in January 2024, Nigeria must beat Guinea Bissau today.

Ahead of the qualifiers which will kick off at 5 PM this evening, Peseiro who has led the Super Eagles to four successive defeats, said his team could beat the Wild Dogs 3-0 in Bissau.

He said, “If we repeat the performance of last Friday in the second leg, we will beat them 3-0. No team can take good luck all the time.”

“We scored two goals against Sierra Leone with less amount of pressure. Then we had about 50 percent of the opportunities we had today and beat them 2-0.”

During the post-match press conference in Abuja, Peseiro congratulated Guinea-Bissau for the victory and attributed the defeat to his team as a lack of luck.

The Super Eagles coach said, “First of all congratulations to Guinea-Bissau. We missed many goals, we could have been here for another hour and not scored, sometimes it happens in football.

“I’m not happy of course, I am sad like my team but they did the maximum. We created many, many clear opportunities but it was a bad day. If we played in the way we played today, we (are supposed to) beat Guinea-Bissau.

“Guinea-Bissau were lucky and very bad luck for us.”
