JUST IN: Court Remands Agba Jalingo In Prison
Agba Jalingo

Embattled Nigerian journalist, Agba Jalingo, has been remanded in prison as a Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, ruled on the case filed against him by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command.

Naija News understands that Jalingo was accused of defaming Elizabeth Ayade, the wife of Frank Ayade, a sibling to Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade.

It could be recalled that Jalingo was arrested in August 2022 after police operatives laid siege to his Lagos residence for allegedly defaming the character of Elizabeth.

In the case filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja on December 6, 2022, the police claimed a publication by the journalist against Elizabeth was false and was released to cause her annoyance, ill will, and insult.

Though Jalingo was released later in the same month last year, the case against him is still very active.

EFCC Arrest Over 80 PoS Vendors, Clamp Down On Others Over High Charges

Meanwhile, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have reportedly arrested some Point of Sales (PoS) vendors in Akure, the Ondo State capital, over high charges.

Naija News understands that the anti-graft agency allegedly arrested over 80 PoS vendors in Akure South and Akure North Local Government Areas.

Eyewitnesses told The Nations that men of the EFCC arrested these PoS vendors for allegedly buying and selling money to individuals with higher interest.

Giving an account of how operatives of the agency raided, a source said PoS operators were forced to disclose the source of the cash used in their businesses and were forced by the EFCC to take them to the banks they purchased the monies from.

The source, who pleaded anonymity, said even though some of them fled upon hearing the news of the raid, others who were caught were compelled to confess how they got the monies for business.

The source said “They have arrested about 80 PoS attendants in Oja Oba Area. If they come to you, they will ask you to disclose the source of your cash and how much you are charging your customers and also ask you to take them to the person that gave you the money.

“Some PoS attendants, who got the information beforehand, abandoned their stands and fled.

“A PoS agent was just here attending to customers when a woman came and asked how much he charges on every one thousand naira.”
