Mbappe Wins First Match As France Captain
UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifiers - Group B - France v Netherlands

Kylian Mbappe led France to victory on Friday, March 24, in their Euro 2024 qualifier match against the Netherlands.

The 4-0 victory was Mbappe’s first match as France’s new national football team captain. Naija News reports that the 24-year-old player recently succeeded long-standing France skipper Hugo Lloris.

Last Friday’s victory is seen as a good start-up and a fresh era with the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) superstar who set up the pink-haired Antoine Griezmann to score within two minutes of the game.

Mbappe had two goals and an assist as the World Cup finalists romped to a 4-0 win against a depleted Netherlands side yesterday.

In the intriguing game, Dayot Upamecano bundled in the second goal in the eighth minute, and Mbappe got his name on the scoresheet to make it 3-0 before the midway point in the first half.

Mbappe sealed the victory for France in emphatic fashion with two minutes remaining before the Netherlands’ Memphis Depay had a stoppage-time penalty saved by goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

It was a display of ruthless efficiency from Didier Deschamps’ side against a Dutch team missing several key players after a virus swept through their squad.

They can at least console themselves because their most challenging assignment in qualifying Group B is out of the way, and their next game is at home to Gibraltar on Monday.

Naija News understands that the match against the Netherlands was their first since their World Cup final defeat on penalties by Argentina just over three months ago.
