Results of the governorship election held last Saturday across the nation have thrown up upsets in some states.

Naija News reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious is majority of the 28 states.

Although results are still expected in some state, Nigerians now know the leaders to govern their states for the next four years except some of these results are overturned by the court.

However, eight of the 36 states; Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Osun, and Ondo have their governorship elections off-season due to litigations and court judgements.

In the 2023 governorship election, eleven state governors were seeking re-election, while seventeen outgoing governors would be handing over to new hands.

Newly elected governors include: Umo Eno – Akwa Ibom, Similanayi Fubara – Rivers, Bassey Otu – Cross River, Caleb Muftwang – Plateau, Dikko Umar Radda – Katsina, Ahmed Aliyu – Sokoto, Abba Yusuf – Kano, Francis Nwifuru – Ebonyi, Sheriff Oborevwori – Delta, Uba Sani – Kaduna, Hyacinth Alia – Benue, Kefas Agbu – Taraba, Dauda Lawal – Zamafara.

Governors who won re-election: Oyo State (Seyi Makinde), Ogun State (Dapo Abiodun), Borno State (Babagana Zulum), Yobe State (Mai Mala Buni), Lagos State (Babajide Sanwo-Olu), Kwara State (Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq), Nasarawa State (Abdullahi Sule), Bauchi State (Bala Mohammed), Gombe State (Inuwa Yahaya).
