The Electoral Officer and the Returning Officer for the Zamfara state governorship election in the Maradun local government area of the state have been released.

Naija News had earlier reported that the officials were abducted on their way to the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Gusau, the state capital.

The spokesperson of INEC in the state, Muktari Janyau who confirmed the development to Daily Trust, said the officials were meant to deliver the result of the governorship election for Maradun Local Government when they were intercepted and taken to an undisclosed location.

The local government area is the hometown of the state Governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bello Matawalle who is seeking reelection.

A report by Daily Trust had it that the INEC officials have been released.
