The Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Senator George Akume, has congratulated Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia on his election victory.

Naija News reported that Alia, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, was declared the winner of the Benue State governorship election after defeating his closest rival and the Peoples Democratic Party (PD) candidate, Engr. Titus Uba.

The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Adamu Farouk Kuta, who is Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, announced that Alia polled a total of 473,933 votes to beat Uba who scored 223,913 votes.

Kuta added that the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Heman Hembe, trailed behind them with a total of 41,881 votes.

Reacting to the victory in a statement on Monday, Akume assured that Benue State would bounce back in the scheme of things with the winning of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship election.

The former Benue governor and the leader of APC in the state hailed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a largely peaceful exercise in the state which produced Alia as the winner.

Akume said: “A new government is the dawn of progressiveness, a dawn of development, a dawn of prosperity. Benue will bounce back, I assure you of that.”
