The Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom, Ogoni-Oghoro 1, Royal Canon, OON, Chairman, Council of Traditional Rulers Urhobo Nation, HRM, DR, (OVIE) R. L. Ogbon, has reportedly died.

Ogbon who is said to be the world’s oldest monarch died at 106 years of age.

The sad development was made public after a meeting of the traditional council at the Ohworode palace in Ogoni Olomu on Thursday evening, Naija News understands.

Confirming the demise of the monarch, the Otota of Olomu Kingdom, Olorogun Macaulay Ovbagbedia, said “We can confirm today that our Ohworode has gone back to God. He lived a great life; he served the Government well and his people.

“We are mourning and celebrating, reason is that he was old but it’s painful though.”

Also mourning the traditional ruler, the Akpile of Olomu Kingdom, Olorogun Albert Akpomudje (SAN), said due to the happening, there shall be 21 days of mourning in the kingdom, no celebration of burial and marriage.

Vanguard quoted Akpomudhe as saying that Chiefs should not adorn themselves in the traditional red cap and should add a black armband to any dressing during the time.

The burial plans he said shall be announced shortly.

Naija News understands that the deceased had celebrated his birthday on 20th January with thanksgiving after battling health challenges over a period of two months.

Ohworode of Olomu was the only Anglican Communion-ordained Royal Canon in the world.

He also bagged an Honorary doctorate degree from Delta State University Abraka for his contribution to education.
