Premier League club, Everton remembered former Nigerian football star, Yakubu Aiyegbeni as the 10th player in the club’s history to score the quickest goal in the league.

Recently, Everton shared a video on its official YouTube channel which shows clips of a list of ten players in the history of the club that scored the quickest Premier League goals.

Interestingly, Aiyegbeni was the only Nigerian player on the list even though the club has had a series of Nigerian stars who have donned the colors of the club in the past and present.

Aside from the retired Nigeria international, other Nigerian players like Joseph Yobo, Victor Anichebe, Daniel Amokachi, Ademola Lookman, and Alex Iwobi have played and scored Premier League goals for the Merseyside club.

Aiyegbeni who joined Everton from Middlesbrough in 2007 became one of the players to score the quickest goals in the Premier League when he scored after only 47 seconds of action. This goal came in Everton’s 3-1 victory over Portsmouth at Goodison Park on March 2, 2008.

Everton remembered this goal after the club’s star Dwight McNeil scored in the first 35 seconds in the Premier League game against Brentford on Saturday, March 11, 2023. The game ended 1-0 in favor of the relegation-threatened Everton.

In the history of the club, the player who holds the record for the quickest goal is John Ebbrell. He set the record when he scored in the 23rd second against Wimbledon on January 1, 1996.

Other players who have scored in the first minute for Everton in the Premier League are Tom Davies, Romelu Lukaku, David Unsworth, Dwight Mcneil, Olivier Darcourt, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Kevin Campbell, and Nick Barmby.
