Manchester City’s prolific forward, Erling Haaland has revealed that the Premier League club signed him to help them win the UEFA Champions League title.

In recent years especially under coach Pep Guardiola, Manchester City has been very successful domestically. However, they have not been able to reciprocate that form and consistency in Europe.

Despite winning 17 domestic titles since 2008, City have made it to the Champions League final only once (2020-2021 season). Unfortunately, they lost the final to Chelsea by just a goal.

The Champions League remains the biggest major title that has eluded the star-studded side. Hence, the owners have been investing heavily to actualize the dream of winning the title.

The biggest move the club has made in winning the title, apart from keeping Pep Guardiola at the club for almost 7 years, was to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund last summer.

Before he arrived at the Premier League club, he was the most sought-after striker in the world. Interestingly, he has not been a disappointment under the tutelage of Guardiola.

On Tuesday night, Haaland scored five goals in Manchester City’s 7-0 win over RB Leipzig to help the team qualify for the quarter-finals stage of the Champions League. Even though he is just 22 years old, he has scored 33 goals in 22 Champions League appearances to become the youngest player to reach above 30 goals in the competition.

Hence, the next level for him is to reach the final of the competition and probably win it for Manchester City this season.

When asked if he was signed by City to win the Champions League, the Norwegian striker said, “Of course, the club want to win the Champions League.

“They’ve won four out of the last five Premier League titles. They didn’t bring me in to win the Premier League because they already know how to win it.

“So, you can read between the lines. I’m here to try to help the club develop even more and to win the Champions League for the first time.”
