A heavy-duty truck reportedly belonging to the Dangote Group killed three persons in Ogun State on Tuesday evening.

Reports obtained by Naija News revealed that a Dangote truck loaded with bags of cement lost control and rammed into some traders around Toll Gate, Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State yesterday around 19:35pm.

The accident, according to reports, involved the Dangote truck with registration number RAN788AX and a BAJAJ motorcycle registered as AAB107V.

Confirming the tragic accident, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) disclosed that six persons were involved in the crash- two male adults and four female adults.

“Two female adults sustained injuries. One male adult and two female adults were killed in the crash. One person was unhurt,” the spokesperson of the FRSC in Ogun, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident to Daily Post on Wednesday morning.

Okpe explained that the injured victims were taken to the General Hospital, Ota, while the corpses were deposited at the same hospital’s morgue. According to her, the suspected causes of the crash were excessive speed, brake failure and loss of control.

“The truck conveying cement was coming from Sango towards Lagos, and while descending from a slope, it was suspected to have developed a brake failure, so it lost control and veered off the road, thereby crashing into a shop.”

“The dead victims are either traders or passengers waiting for vehicles at the bus stop,” Okpe explained.

Okpe conveyed the reaction of the Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, Ahmed Umar, saying the road safety boss has sympathised with the crash victims’ families, advising motorists to always carry out vehicle maintenance regularly.
