The PUNCH: Exactly 10 days after the Supreme Court judgement mandating the use of old N,1000 and N500 notes as legal tender till December 31, 2023, the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, on Monday bowed to pressure and officially ordered commercial banks to comply with the court verdict.


The Guardian: Ten days after Supreme Court ruling directing continued use of old N500 and N1,000 notes till December 31, 2023, the Presidency, yesterday, clarified that President Muhammadu Buhari did not direct the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami (SAN), and governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, not to obey the apex court’s ruling on naira redesign policy.

The Nation: The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) yesterday directed banks to comply with the Supreme Court judgment of March 3 on the validity of old naira notes. The instruction came hours after President Muhammadu Buhari rebuked CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami (SAN) for not obeying the order.

Daily Trust: Following President Muhammadu Buhari’s statement that he did not asked the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Attorney -General of the Federation to disobey the Supreme Court judgement, the apex bank last night said that the old N200, N500 and N1,000 notes remain legal tender.
