Two major runways of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos will be closed for at least eight weeks.

According to a tweet from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Monday, the Murtala Muhammed International Airport runways 18R and 36L will be closed for renovations starting from March 2023.

While the two international runways remain shut for maintenance, FAAN has revealed that airbuses would be permitted to land and take off via Taxiway B-18L runway until the renovations are completed.

This means that flight operations at the international airport would not be affected by the renovations.

A tweet from FAAN verified page read, “This is to notify the public that runway 18R/36L of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos has been closed for 8 weeks for Maintenance work to be carried out.”

“Taxiway B-18L will be used for all flight operations.”

Naija News recalls that the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) had closed the same Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) runways 18L/36R in June 2022 for maintenance purposes. The renovation lasted for 90 days before it was reopened for usage.

Hence, the renovation which will commence in March and end in May 2023 will make it the second time in less than one year that the runways are closed for the same purpose.
