Anxiety As Tribunals Decide On Tinubu, 25 Govs' Election Victory In September

The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has claimed that some persons within and outside the country do not want Bola Tinubu to be the next President.

In a statement issued on Saturday by its Secretary-General, Oladipo Oyewole, YCE said the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a victory for all in the South-West and all of Nigerians.

The Council said Tinubu’s victory should be accepted by all having been declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to the YCE, the former Governor of Lagos State is a pride to all sons and daughters of the Yoruba and Nigeria generally.

The statement reads: “In the first instance, Tinubu’s victory is a victory for all of us in the south-west and all of us in Nigeria.

“Some persons did not want him. But, once the result came out and the Certificate of Return was issued, everything should have been laid to rest.

“Tinubu is a pride to all sons and daughters of the Yoruba and Nigeria generally.”

The statement further said YCE said the leader of the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Reuben Fasoranti, has congratulated Tinubu and that his decision remains the position of the association.

Oyewole said Fasoranti has congratulated Tinubu on behalf of the YCE and Afenifere on his hard-won victory in the February 25 presidential election.

He added: “Baba Fasoranti has sent a very warm congratulatory letter, on our behalf and his own (Afenifere), to Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his hard-won victory in the February 25, 2023, presidential election.

“That was done in line with the well-known Afenifere practice. This is where Afenifere stands: The Oracle Has Acted and Spoken. Any person or group that may see things differently is free to do so as he is free to exercise his liberty. ()

Recall that Afenifere, in a communique issued by its General Secretary, Sola Ebiseni, had rejected Tinubu’s victory in the just-concluded presidential election.

The organization said the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, won the February 25 election based on results obtained from “credible sources”.

Recall that the interim leader of Afenifere, Ayo Adebanjo, had backed Obi’s presidential bid, a decision that was rejected by some members of Afenifere, including Fasoranti.
