Hanga Reacts To Supreme Court Ruling On NNPP Kano Central Senatorial Candidacy

A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rufai Hanga has berated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its role in the tussle for the Kano Central District seat.

Naija News reported that the Supreme Court has dropped the former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, as the Senator-elect for Kano Central Senatorial District.

In a unanimous judgment on Friday, a five-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice Inyang Okoro, also removed Senator Shekarau as the NNPP Senatorial candidate in the February 25 National Assembly election.

The apex court affirmed the nomination of Hanga as the NNPP candidate and faulted INEC for refusing to replace Shekarau, who had left the party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Justice Emmanuel Agim, who read the lead judgment on behalf of the apex court, held that the INEC’s appeal lacked merit and substance and dismissed it.

Reacting in a chat with reporters on Friday, Hanga said the electoral body was wrong for appealing the judgements of the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal which upheld him as the NNPP Senatorial Candidate for Kano Central.

The Senator-elect wondered why INEC would announce Shekarau who was not even a member of the party as the winner of the senatorial election.

The NNPP chieftain, therefore, said the truth has finally prevailed and he is extremely grateful to Almighty Allah.
