Updates On The Bus/Train Accident In Lagos

Not less than six people on Thursday lost their lives in an accident involving a train and BRT bus loaded with passengers in Ikeja, Lagos State, while several others were injured.

Naija News had earlier reported that the train collided with the BRT on Thursday morning at Adekunle Fajuyi way in Ikeja.

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) disclosed that a total of six persons have been confirmed dead while about 84 others with various degrees of injuries have been evacuated to the hospital.

According to NEMA, two people initially died at the scene while four others died on arrival at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Health in the state, Akin Abayomi in an update on his Twitter account said twenty-five patients are with moderate injuries.

He wrote, “the accident recorded 102 casualties including 6 fatalities (2 deaths at the scene of the accident and 4 @LASUTHikeja).

“All victims of the accident with varying degrees of injuries including life-threatening conditions such as head and chest cases were admitted and treated @LASUTHikeja.

“25 patients with moderate injuries were later referred to 5 General Hospitals in Lagos for further treatment and to decongest @LASUTHikeja.

“Further updates on the incident and medical condition of victims will be provided as much as necessary.”
