With multi-ethnicity in Nigeria, one of the ways to build a strong bond amongst citizens is through inter-tribal marriage to enable different tribes to see themselves as one.

However, the decision to marry from another tribe has become a political issue in today’s society as the political space has been agog with issues of the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour not being a Lagosian.

In this article, Naija News highlights five Nigerian politicians from the Yoruba part of the country that married Igbo women.

1.  Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour: The LP candidate is an indigene of Lagos State and married an Igbo woman just like his father, Olawale Rhodes-Vivours and this has generated a war cry by many Lagosians with claims that he would not be loyal to Yorubas.

2. Ademola Adeleke: Erelu Ngozi Adeleke, is the governor’s first wife who has been living in the United States for many years. The 58-year-old fair-skinned woman hails from eastern Nigeria. Some people are of the opinion that besides his undiluted love for her, he married her to satisfy the eastern Nigerian blood in him.

Ademola’s mother was an Igbo Christian woman from Enugu State named Nnenna Esther Adeleke. She married the governor’s father a Muslim, Raji Ayoola Adeleke who was also a former Senator. Ngozi and her husband are blessed with four children, Folashade, Sina Rambo, B-Red, and Adenike.

3. Rotimi Akeredolu: The governor is married to Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, who hails from Owerri in Imo State.

The 69-year-old gender activist and Ondo State governor are blessed with four children and four grandchildren

4. Femi Fani-Kayode: The All Progressives Congress Chieftain married a former beauty queen, Precious Chikwendu, who hails from Anambra State. Despite this, FFK daily on the microblogging platform joined the trend of opposition Igbo leadership in the country.

5. Teslim Folarin: The politician was married to the late Angela Nwaka Teslim who hails from the eastern part of Nigeria. Before her death in 2022, their union is blessed with two children, Julius and Faisal.
