NEMA Reacts As Train Collides With BRT Bus In Lagos

A fresh update from the scene of the Lagos BRT bus and train collision at the Shogunle area of Ikeja on Thursday reveals that more persons have died.

Naija News reports that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in an update of the incident on its website said a total of six persons have been confirmed dead while about 84 others with various degrees of injuries have been evacuated to the hospital.

According to the update, two people initially died at the scene while four others died on arrival at the hospital.

The NEMA said: “After a report to the Lagos Territorial Office, the Emergency Response team mobilised to the scene of a bus/train collision.

“The State Government staff bus was trying to cross the PWD/Sogunle rail crossing while the train coming into Lagos from Abeokuta trapped the bus on its rail.

“Two adult females staff of the State Government died on the spot and several injured evacuated.

“Four additional injured persons have died on arrival at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital of the 84 injured and evacuated to the hospital.”

Naija News reported earlier that the BRT was trying to cross the PWD/Sogunle rail crossing while the train coming into Lagos from Abeokuta trapped the bus on its rail.
