Argentine professional footballer, Lionel Messi, has come under verbal attack after failing to help his club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), qualify for the next round of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) on Wednesday.

Naija News understand that PSG was defeated 2-0 by Bayern Munich yesterday in leg 2 of 2 in round 16 of the ongoing Champions League campaign.

Bayern Munich had won their first match against PSG by a goal, pushing their aggregate to 3-0 after Wednesday’s victory.

Reacting to the match, former PSG star, Jerome Rothen, knocked Messi, saying the Argentina national team captain put up a poor display in the Parisians’ embarrassing defeat on Wednesday evening in Germany.

Bayern Munich earned their win with goals from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Serge Gnabry. However, Rothen was not pleased with Messi’s performance against the Bavarians, insisting that the former Barcelona captain disappeared during the match. ()

According to him, Messi always disappears in important matches and scores goals in other matches of less concern.

“Messi, we don’t want it!” Rothen said on the French radio station RMC.

He added: “He (Messi) doesn’t want to get involved in this club! He says he is ‘acclimatized’ now, but what are you acclimatized to?! You scored 18 goals or 16 assists this year against Angers and Clermont? But in the matches that matter, you disappear.

“PSG fell at his feet because they thought Messi was going to make us win [the UEFA Champions League]. But he doesn’t win us anything.”
