The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, would no longer visit Abia state today as earlier planned.

Before now, Peter Obi who the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said came third in the February 25th presidential election, was expected to visit Abia to campaign for the state’s Labour Party governorship candidate Chief Alex Otti.

However, a brief statement from Otti’s special assistant for media and publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, announced that the visit has been rescheduled.

According to the media aide, the visit had to be rescheduled because of Obi’s current commitments in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

Ekeoma, however, noted that the Labour Party presidential candidate would visit the state before the governorship and state house of assembly elections scheduled for March 11, 2023.

He said, “While we hope to communicate a new date to Ndi Abia, we sincerely regret any inconveniences which the postponement may have caused them.”

Naija News recalls that Peter Obi who was one of the major contenders for the February 25 presidential election, is challenging the outcome of the election in court.

He and the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, who came second in the election according to INEC, believe that the declared winner, Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC, didn’t win the election.

Both Atiku and Obi have gotten permission from the court to inspect INEC election materials but INEC is said to be in contention with the permission because it wants to use the BVAS machines in question for the governorship and state assembly elections.
