Keyamo Reacts As EU Denies Calling For Cancellation Of Presidential Election

The Chief Spokesman of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC PCC), Festus Keyamo, has reacted to a forged statement from the European Union (EU) calling for the cancellation of the presidential election.

Naija News reports that the European Union (EU) in Nigeria dismissed a report that the EU in partnership with the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and International Republican Institute (IRI) called for the cancellation of the February 25 elections.

The EU was reacting to a viral statement attributed to it that claimed that the just-concluded elections were marred by numerous cases of electoral malpractice, lack of transparency, and constitutional operational failures in a clear violation of democratic principles.

In the purported statement, the EU was also said to have called for the sack of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

However, the spokesperson for the EU in Nigeria, Agnes Doka, said the Union described the purported letter as fake and said it didn’t release the statement.

Speaking to newsmen on Friday, Doka said the EU has nothing to do with the said letter with regard to the just concluded general elections and didn’t enter an alliance with the NDI.

Reacting to the development, Keyamo accused “those who say they want to build a new Nigeria” of being behind the fake statement and the forgery of the letterhead of the EU.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment added that those behind the fake statement also lied their way to the just-concluded elections.

He wrote: “Those who say they want to build a new Nigeria have forged the letter-head of the European Union and forged a Press Release calling for a cancellation of the elections. This is how they lied their way to the polls, but Nigerians eventually saw through them. It’s sad. Very sad.”
