Supreme Court Fixes Time To Deliver Judgment On Naira Swap Policy

The Supreme Court is set to deliver judgment in the cases filed by some states to challenge the implementation of the naira swap policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by 10 am.

Naija News learned that a court official announced the shift in time to Nigerians who are already situated inside the apex court to hear the judgement on the case.

The official was, however, silent on the reason for the shift of the ruling from the 9 am usual sitting time of the court.

Meanwhile, Governors Nasir El-Rufai ( Kaduna), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), and Bello Matamale (Zamfara) have arrived at the Court to witness the proceedings.

Bello who first arrived at the Court was accompanied by a retinue of top government functionaries, while El-Rufai and Matawalle later joined him and were welcomed on arrival by some senior lawyers handling the suit for his side.

However, following the announcement fn the shift in the time of judgment delivery, the three governors stepped into a secluded area to await the arrival of the Justices.

Recall that some state governments filed a suit against the Federal Government over the naira swap policy.

A nine-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice John Okoro in their last hearing scheduled judgment for March 3.

The plaintiffs in the cases are Kaduna, Kogi, Zamfara, Katsina, Lagos, Cross River, Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo, Sokoto, Rivers, Kano, Niger, Jigawa, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Abia states.

The Supreme Court upon an application by Bayelsa and Edo states on February 15 joined the two states as co-defendants with the origin sole defendant, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).
