Kogi Women Go Spiritual, Reject Elections Result

Some aggrieved women in Kogi State took to the streets to protest against what they described as “injustice” following the outcome of the senatorial election in their district conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The group asked the electoral umpire to declare Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party, the rightful winner of the Kogi Central senatorial district election in the state.

The women adorned in white attire and waved leaves as they marched on the streets.

Such is said to be done at sacred times to invoke the ancestral spirits of war against those who cheat or cause pain to the land.

Naija News learnt that Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in a statement issued by Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Campaign, on Tuesday rejected the results of the senatorial election.

According to her, the election was riddled with alleged manipulation of the processes, doctoring of figures, cancellation of polling units where she won and invasion of many polling units by armed thugs loyal to the All Progressives Congress.

The statement reads: “The electoral process in Okene local government area was highly manipulated in connivance with the electoral officials”.

“APC thugs invaded many polling units in Okene local government, chased out voters and snatched ballot boxes which were filled in private residence.”

It further accused APC and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission of disregarding electoral guidelines, adding that they “fraudulently rigged Okene local government area with high number of over-voting”.

“The results of the 11 Wards in Okene local government were highly doctored,” it added.
