Taraba Governor Joins Ortom, Fail To Secure Senate seat

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), David Jimkuta, winner of the Taraba South Senatorial election.

Naija News reports that Jimkuta defeated Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State to represent the people of Taraba South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

Announcing the result, the returning officer for the election, Adeyeye Solomon, said Jimkuta scored 85,415 votes to defeat Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party (PD) who polled 45,708 votes.

Solomon said the APC candidate won in all the Local Government Areas (LGAs) including the governor’s hometown of Takum.

He said results from the various local government areas that make up the zone indicate that the APC candidate polled 17,607 votes in Donga LGA while the governor clinched 10,492 votes.

Solomon added Jimkuta got 13,087 votes as against Ishaku’s 8,092 votes in Ibi LGA; 22,246 votes against 4,098 votes in Ussa/Yangtu; 20,892 votes against 12,988 votes in Wukari and 11,581 votes against 9,640 votes from Takum.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Shu’aibu Lau, has won his re-election bid for the Taraba North Senatorial District.

The returning officer for the senatorial district, Chibiya Chingu, said Lau polled 74,645 votes to defeat Sani Danladi, the APC candidate, who had 61,878 votes.
