The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has come out to reveal the next line of action after his defeat in the Senatorial race.

Naija News reported on Monday that the governor lost the Benue North West senatorial election to his former aide, Titus Zam of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Zam was declared the winner for Benue North West Senatorial District by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning officer, Prof. Rufus Shaato.

Shaato said Zam scored a total of 143,151 votes to emerge winner of the election as against Ortom who polled a total of 106,882 votes to come second while the Labour Party candidate, Mark Gbillah, had 51,950 votes.

This online news platform reports that the results from various polling units, wards and local government area collation centres across the senatorial district indicated that the governor lost in six out of the seven local government areas winning only his native Guma.

The Senator-elect was Ortom’s Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs during his first tenure.

However reacting to his defeat, Ortom said reports of the results have reached him and he would study it.

The governor, who reacted in a brief statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Terver Akase, said he would respond appropriately after studying the result.

He said, “His Excellency, Governor Samuel Ortom has received the result of the 2023 Benue North West Senatorial election. He will study the result and respond appropriately.”
