List Of Governors, Ex-Govs That Won National Assembly Seats

The National Assembly elections held last Saturday have seen some governors and former governors emerge victorious in the contest.

As results continue to trickle in for the just concluded elections, below are some of the governors and ex-governors elected on the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who won their bid to join the 10th National Assembly.

Adams Oshiomhole

Former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, won the Edo North Senatorial seat.

Announcing the result in Auchi,  the INEC’s Returning Officer, Benjamin Adesina, said Oshiomhole polled 107,110 votes to defeat Francis Alimikhena of the PDP, the incumbent, who scored 55,344 votes.

Godswill Akpabio

Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, won the Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial  District election with 115,401  votes, beating PDP’s Emmanuel Enoidem, who got 69,838 votes.

David Umahi

Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, won the Ebonyi South Senatorial District election with 28,378 votes to defeat his rivals, Linus Okorie of the Labour Party, who scored 25,496 votes, and APGA’s Eleje, who scored 11,398 votes.

Orji Uzor Kalu

Former Governor of Abia State and the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, won the Abia North Senatorial District election, having got 30,805 votes to defeat his main opponents, Mao Ohuabunwa of the PDP with 15,175 votes, and Nnamdi Iroh of the Labour Party, who polled 25,540 votes.

Gbenga Daniel

Former Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, won the Ogun East senatorial election held on Saturday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer, Christopher Onwuka,  said APC’s Daniel scored 115,147 votes to defeat his closest rival, Ajibola Kalejaiye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 58,708 votes.

Ibrahim Dankwambo

Former Governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwambo has won the Gombe Central North Senatorial District, defeating the incumbent Saidu Alkali of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Returning Officer of the election, Prof Umaru Garamu, said Dankwambo of the PDP polled 143155 votes to defeat his closest rival, Alkali of the APC, who scored 77,948 votes.

Danjuma Goje

Another former Governor of Gombe and incumbent senator representing Gombe Central senatorial district, Danjuma Goje of the APC was declared l the winner of the election.

The INEC Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Mustapha Muhammad, who declared the results on Sunday in Kumo, said Goje polled 102,916 votes.

He defeated his closest rival, Aliyu Abubakar of the PDP who polled 37,870 votes, and Bibikir Muhammad of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), who secured 1,155 votes.
