Confed Cup: Rivers United Beat Congolese Team With 10 Men

Rivers United, the Nigeria Professional Football League club representing Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup defeated Congolese team Motema Pembe 1-0 despite playing with a man down.

By the end of the first half, Stanley Eguma’s squad was reduced to 10 men, and in the 53rd minute of play, Rivers United grabbed the winner.

Rivers United defender Ebube Duru was dismissed three minutes before halftime after collecting a second yellow card.

While playing with a man down, Paul Acquah scored a fantastic winner for Rivers in the 53rd minute of the game.

The Ghanaian winger’s initial header from Denis Ndasi’s flick was stopped by the goalkeeper, but he eventually scored on a rebound.

With the 1-0 win, the reigning NPFL champions are topping Group B, two points ahead of ASEC, while Diable Noirs drops to third after accruing six points from three games and defeating ASEC Mimosas 2-0.

The rematch between Rivers United and Motema Pembe will take place at Godwill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Wednesday, March 8.

The Stanley Eguma-led team will honor a historic NPFL match-day nine encounter against Abia Warriors on March 26 in Umuahia.
