Police Reacts To Video Of MC Oluomo Stopping Igbos From Voting At His Polling Unit

The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has reacted to a viral video showing the Lagos State Parks Management Committee Chairman, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, allegedly threatening and restraining the Igbo people from voting at his Polling Unit.

Naija News understands that a netizen (@chude__) had shared the clip on Twitter, calling the force’s attention to the event at the polling unit in Fehintola Giwa Street, Aguda, Surulere, Lagos.

Chude further alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) refused to redeploy its comprised REC, Agbaje, adding that “MC Oluomo made sure that materials didn’t get to their destinations.”

Reacting to the clip, which has received a barrage of reactions on the microblogging platform, the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, assured that the video would be investigated.

Hundeyin described the event as criminal and violating the Electoral Act 2022.

“While the video will be investigated to know if it’s an old, recycled one or not, it should be noted that this is criminal and totally against the Electoral Act, 2022.

“Violators will be prosecuted,” Hundeyin said.

Naija News reports that MC Oluomo is a loyalist to All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Court Stops INEC From Using MC Oluomo For Logistics

Meanwhile, the Federal High Court in Lagos had, on Friday, February 24, restrained INEC from contracting MC Oluomo to distribute 2023 election materials in the state.

The court also restricted INEC from using its privies or any persons acting under its directions from contracting, partnering or appoint any of MC Oluomo’s members and/or drivers in distributing materials in the state.

Naija News understands that the presiding Judge, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, passed the judgement in a suit filed by Labour Party, its governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-vivour and four others.

The other applicants in the suit are African Democratic Congress, Boot Party and their governorship candidates, Funsho Doherty and Wale Oluwo, respectively.

The court had on Monday granted an interim order on the issue before adjourning to hear the substantive case.

A hearing in the substantive case came up on Wednesday, after which the court adjourned till Friday for its judgment.
