Edo LG Election: Peter Obi To Attend Labour Party Mega Rally

The Chief Spokesman for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council (LP PCC), Yunusa Tanko, has said the party’s standard bearer, Peter Obi, would accept his loss if the presidential election was free, fair, and credible.

Naija News reports that Obi is contesting the presidential race with Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), and fourteen other flagbearers.

In a chat with The Punch, Tanko said Obi would accept his loss in good faith if the presidential election was a free and fair contest because he is a democrat.

The LP campaign spokesman added that if there is manipulation in the election and Obi was denied victory, he has the right to challenge the process in court.

He said: “We are not afraid because we are democrats. A full democrat only exemplifies his character when he knows he lost in a free and fair contest. That’s what makes him a democrat.

“But if there is manipulation and he was denied victory, he has the right to challenge the process. However, if we lose in a fair and credible exercise, we will do what we ought to do as democrats. The caveat is for the process to be free, fair, and credible.”

Tanko said if Obi emerges as the next President, Nigerians should expect to see practical actions based on his seven-point agenda in his first 100 days in office.

He added: “Practical actions based on his seven-point agenda. In terms of security, you will see improvements. In the economy, I have shown you how we will encourage people to return to farming. Infrastructural development is there as well as cutting waste in government in alignment with the Stephen Oronsaye Report.

“There will be employment opportunities and legal reform will be looked into. These are achievable and Obi and his running mate will hit the ground running once they are elected.
