Oba Ewuare II of Benin had asked Nigerian politicians and other influential individuals not to promote violence during the ongoing election period.

The Oba gave this advice when the delegation of the European Union Mission Long Term Observers visited him on Sunday in Benin City, Edo state.

He said: ”There is no point shedding blood or getting involved in violence, acts of impunity, and other outrageous activities.”

The Oba of Benin stressed that the Benin throne has been fervently praying and working for peaceful elections in Nigeria and he urged voters, politicians, and all eligible participants to behave properly.

“We are expecting politicians and the electorate to behave. We pray that the elections will be peaceful”, he said.

“We have been praying and working hard for peaceful elections. There is no point in shedding blood. So, we are optimistic.”

Earlier, Jeroen De Vries, Team Head of the Mission, thanked the Oba for welcoming the European Union group to his palace.

He claimed that the committee was in Nigeria at the invitation of the federal government to assess whether the elections were carried out in conformity with national regulations and international norms.

The team leader also expressed optimism that the elections will be advantageous for the people of Nigeria.
