The fear of voter apathy heightened in Abuja on Saturday following the low turnout of voters in Apo polling unit 120 in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

This publication learnt that unlike in other wards and units where voters stormed the venue, waiting for the arrival of ad-hoc workers of the Independent National Electoral Commission, an empty polling booth was seen at Blooms Vine Estate as INEC officials sat, waiting for residents to turn up.

The presiding INEC officer on duty, Eberechi Nwosu, explained their predicament to PUNCH, stating that only 13 eligible voters had come for accreditation since they arrived at the unit with security operatives at 8.58 am.

Nwosu also stated that as of 12.45 pm, only five persons of the 13 voters had cast their ballots with no sign of other prospective electorates showing up.

She said: “We have been sitting in the last three hours and have so far accredited 13 persons. However, only five of them returned to vote.

“We are still hopeful that the others would come too. But if we don’t see them, we will count the votes and pack our things.”

Mastermind Of Abuja-Kuduna Train Attack Arrested

Meanwhile, one of the masterminds of the terrorist attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train which occurred last year has been arrested.

Recall that some dreaded terrorists on March 28, 2022, attacked a moving train on the route and abducted scores of passengers. They also killed some of the train passengers on the spot, Naija News recalls.

However, the Defence Headquarters revealed in a statement on Thursday (today) that the troops arrested one of the assailants during a recent operation.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Musa Danmadami, confirmed in the statement that troops arrested three terrorists recently at Damba, a community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Danmadami explained that the defence headquarters got a tip-off of the whereabouts of the terrorists, and troops mobilised to the location on Valentine’s Day and recovered two motorcycles, two mobile phones, the sum of $5,000 as well as some other currencies.
