The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu, has given reasons why he won’t work against the senatorial ambition of the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.

It was gathered that Ortom is the PDP candidate for the Benue North-West senatorial district in the 2023 elections.

Naija News recalls that Ortom, who is part of the five aggrieved governors of the PDP popularly known as G5 governors have refused to work for the party’s flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar.

The group led by the Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike has insisted that Ayu must resign for a candidate of southern extraction.

Ayu’s refusal to step down from his position resulted in an unresolved crisis in the party leadership as the G5 governors maintained that both Atiku and Ayu, as the party’s presidential candidate and national chairman, can’t come from the same region.

However, despite being in the middle of the crisis, Ayu told pressmen on Thursday at his Makurdi residence that he would not work against Ortom “because he is a candidate of the party.”

According to him, for that reason, he can never work against his senatorial ambition.

It was however learnt that the three senators representing Benue at the National Assembly, Gabriel Suswam, Emmanuel Oker-Jev and Abba Moro have all endorsed Atiku, but Ortom choose to work for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

While canvassing for support for his principal, the PDP national chairman said Atiku’s emergence can quickly change the fortunes of the country.

He told Nigerians to reflect on the hardship they have faced in eight years and make a wise decision of voting for Atiku.
