The Abia State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has refuted reports that it suspended Abia North Senatorial candidate and Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu.

Reports had emerged earlier that Kalu was suspended from the ruling party less than 24 hours before the National Assembly election.

It is understood that the Senate Chief Whip has been at loggerheads with the leadership and members of Abia APC over allegations that the former Abia Governor has been undermining and sabotaging the party in the state.

The letter, dated February 21, alleged that the former Abia Governor was suspended for acts of disobedience and gross anti-party activities.

Another statement, however, has emerged purportedly from the state chapter of the APC, denying Kalu’s suspension.

The party’s Spokesperson, Okey Ezeala, described the reports as the handiwork of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ezeala stated categorically that there is no iota of truth in the report.

He stressed that the malicious letter claiming Kalu’s suspension was occasioned by the PDP’s fright to accept tomorrow’s imminent defeat.

“Senator Orji Uzor Kalu remains the candidate of our great party as both the party and his constituents are satisfied with his performance,” The PUNCH quoted Ezeala.

On the allegation of anti-party activities and other offences, the party labelled the accusations as entirely false, stating that Kalu has always remained a committed member of the party and its progress, Naija News reports.

Ezeala stressed that there was no record of Kalu campaigning against any of its candidates, nor has the Senate Chief Whip campaigned for any other political candidate besides those of the APC as purported in the earlier letter.

The party urged its faithfuls and the general public to disregard the report and head to their various polling units to cast their votes for its candidates.
