BREAKING: NJC Begins Screening Of 22 New Justices For Supreme Court

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has joined in the suit filed by Kaduna, Kogi, Zamfara, and seven states challenging the naira swap policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The suit was filed before the Supreme Court, seeking to restrain the Federal Government from giving effect to the deadline on the use of old N200, N500, and ₦1,000 notes.

Naija News recalls that on February 8, the apex court restrained the CBN from giving effect to the deadline following an ex parte application brought by the three states.

Ondo, Ekiti, Katsina, Ogun, Cross River, Lagos, and Sokoto states have joined the suit as co-plaintiffs, while Edo and Bayelsa states have joined the federal government as defendants.

The states, in the suit, are arguing that the implementation of the policy has caused untold hardship for Nigerians.

However, at the court session on Wednesday, counsel representing Rivers, Emmanuel Ukala, applied that the separate suit filed by the state should be consolidated with that filed by other plaintiffs.

The application was granted by a seven-member panel of the apex court.

As of the time of filing this report, the court is still in session to hear all the motions brought by the states.
