Prominent Islamic Cleric Announces Preferred Presidential Candidate
Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir

The Chairman Council of Ulama, Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’Ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, has announced his preferred presidential candidate ahead of the February 25th election.

Speaking on Tuesday (today) at the closing of the JIBWIS’s 30th National Annual Seminar in Jos, Plateau State capital, the revered Islamic cleric said he would be voting for the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

Sheikh Jingir told the Muslim community that his choice of the former Governor of Lagos State is based on personal interest and conviction. He, however, encouraged his hundreds of followers to vote for the candidates of their choice.

“The executive committee of JIBWIS have met, and I asked members to make their choices among the Presidential candidates.

“During the voting process, (Peoples Democratic Party – PDP presidential candidate), Atiku Abubakar, had 73 votes, Tinubu got 13 votes, and others said they would go with whatever decision I might take. I will vote for Tinubu, this is my personal decision, and you can also vote for whoever you wish to vote for,” Daily Trust quoted Jingir saying.

Jingir, however, urged the APC presidential candidate to be fair and just to all, irrespective of religious, tribal or sectional differences, if elected the next president of Nigeria.

Earlier, the Islamic group assured that it will maintain its methodology of teaching and preaching in accordance with Quran and Sunnah to ensure the effective religious, moral, economic and social development of the Muslim Ummah.
