The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has insisted that the presidential candidate of the party, Rabiu Kwankwaso is not planning to step down for his rivals in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu; and in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

The chieftain of NNPP, Folasade Aliu who is the party’s National Campaign Secretary, said this on Tuesday while speaking in an interview with Channels Television.

The NNPP and several other parties are alleged to have discussed merging before the presidential election, while Kwankwaso’s camp has always denied these reports as inaccurate.

Aliu who claims that Kwankwaso is qualified for the job if he wins the election on February 25, stressed that the former Kano state governor has actively engaged Nigerians in conversation about his intentions for the nation.

She noted that Kwankwaso visited more than 600 of the nation’s 774 local governments to get to know the people and comprehend their day-to-day problems ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

The NNPP National Campaign Secretary said, “We are preparing for this and we are telling Nigerians one-on-one the love we have for this country.

“So, the issue of Kwankwaso stepping down or merging with Tinubu or stepping down for Atiku is absolute nonsense. It’s not going to happen. It’s just the strategy of some mischievous people. As I speak with you, he is on the road, he is talking to people.”

She continued, “We have gone to 600 plus local governments. Does that seem like somebody that is stepping down?

“We are not stepping down for anybody. NNPP is not merging with anybody. If you have something to offer Nigerians, let them know. If you don’t have, go home and sleep.”
