Aisha Buhari Under Attack Over Fake CBN Release Post
Some Nigerians have slammed the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, over a purported Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) press release shared on her Instagram page.
In the release shared on her page on Tuesday, it was alleged that the old N500 and N1000 notes should remain legal tender for the next 70 days, till May 1, 2023.
As of the time of filing this report, the fake release was still on the Instagram page of the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari.
However, in a statement shared via its verified Twitter handle, the CBN debunked the purported press release and described it as fake news.
The statement reads, “For the avoidance of doubt, and in line with Mr. President’s broadcast of February 16, 2023, the CBN has been directed to ONLY reissue and recirculate the old N200 banknotes and this is expected to circulate as legal tender for 60 days up to April 10, 2023.
“Members of the public should therefore disregard any message and/or information not formally released by the Central Bank of Nigeria on this subject. Media practitioners are advised to PLEASE verify any information from the correct sources before publication.”
Following the development, some netizens took to the micro-blogging platform, Twitter to berate the first lady for sharing fake news.

This is a true definition of APC fighting APC in thesame APC government. I mean what sorts of propaganda is this? What’s happening in Aso Rock? Now I’m beginning to understand what Naja'atu said about Aisha Buhari, She is also part of the Cabal. pic.twitter.com/wcflljGXlA

Nigeria is a circus.
The CBN coming out to debunk that statement posted by Aisha Buhari is the funniest thing I have ever seen in the political space. They are determined to see this out to the end. Not even a First Lady can stop them. CBN media strategist, keep it up.😂— Sir David Onyemaizu🦍 (@SirDavidBent) February 21, 2023
Does the First Lady have immunity from prosecution?
This is treason and forgery and she must have a day in court
