2023 Elections: Federal High Court Goes On Holiday From Wednesday

Ahead of the Presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday, February 25, the Federal High Court of Nigeria will suspend operations across the country for five days starting on Wednesday, February 22.

Ahead of the elections, Judge John Tsoho, the Court’s Chief Justice, permitted justices to continue deliberating without interruption until the end of working hours on Wednesday.

After the five days break, the Federal High Court is expected to resume across the country on February 28, three days after the election.

The break, according to a statement from the court, will enable the judges to cast their votes at their different polling units. However, a judge will be available for each of the geopolitical zones to attend to emergencies.

Naija News reports that Nigerians are expected to elect the President, Vice President, and members of the Senate and House of Representatives.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), eighteen presidential candidates are contending for the seat of President.

However, it is believed that there are three major contenders for the February 25 election – Peter Obi of the Labour Party, Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party, and Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress.

A second ballot will be held after three weeks if a clear winner is not determined in the first ballot.
