Nigerian forward, Victor Osimhen reached 100 career goals faster than Argentine football icon, Lionel Messi, and Portuguese legend, Cristiano Ronaldo.

The superb performance of Osimhen in Napoli’s 2-0 victory over Sassuolo on Friday at Stadio Mapei – Citta del Tricolore helped him achieve a new personal record.

In 12 minutes, the Naples-based team took the lead thanks to a superb solo effort by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. In the 33rd minute, Osimhen scored his 100th career goal as Napoli continue their tenacious quest for the Scudetto.

Osimhen scored 85 of his 100 career goals for clubs – Charleroi, Lille, and Napoli, while he scored the remaining 15 goals for the Super Eagles of Nigeria from 2017 to date.

Interestingly, the 24-year-old Nigeria international reached a milestone in his career after playing just 197 games for both club and country.

While football icons like Messi and Ronaldo had to wait a bit longer before they hit the milestone. For instance, Messi played a total of 210 games in all competitions before he achieved the feat. While his career rival, Ronaldo, waited until his 301st game before he achieved the feat.

So far in the 2022-2023 Italian Serie A season, Osimhen has scored 18 league goals in 19 games to remain the current highest goalscorer of the league.
