NNPP Speaks On Kwankwaso, Atiku Alleged Alliance Hours To Presidential Election
Rabiu Kwankwaso and Atiku Abubakar

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has reacted to reports that its presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, would step down to form an alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

A report had emerged earlier claiming that the former Governor of Kano State would, within the next 96 hours to the commencement of the 2023 election, dump his ambition to support the former Vice President to victory in the forthcoming election.

Naija News reports that a spokesperson for the PDP presidential campaign council, Daniel Bwala, alleged this during an interview with journalists earlier.

According to Bwala, Kwankwaso has strong political influence in the north particularly in Kano and Jigawa States but that may not be enough for him to win.

The PDP campaign spokesperson expressed confidence that the former Kano State Governor would form an alliance with Atiku before the February 25 election date.

Reacting, NNPP faulted the report, describing it as falsehoods and stupid propaganda. It further expressed optimism that its candidate, Kwankwaso, will cruise to victory in the 2023 presidential election.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Agbo Major, stated this in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday, noting that “People write whatever they want with their phones.”

“Kwankwaso is in this race to win and will win,” he noted.

Naija News reports that Kwankwaso, a former defence minister, is one of the 18 candidates vying to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari this year.

All efforts earlier to ensure that Kwankwaso and Obi of the Labour Party collapsed their structure to form an alliance against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and PDP failed to yield a positive result.

I Am Shocked APC Govs Can Insult Buhari – Kwankwaso Speaks On Naira Policy

Earlier, Kwankwaso expressed shock over the backlash on President Buhari by some governors elected on the platform of the ruling APC over the Naira redesign policy.

The presidential candidate of the NNPP said it came to him as a surprise to see the APC chieftains knocking the Nigerian leader in that manner for siding with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to have some of the country’s currency notes changed to address some issues including vote buying and money laundering.

Naija News recalls that some APC governors had dragged the federal government, the CBN and the Attorney General of the Federation to court over the new naira redesign policy.

The APC chieftains faulted President Buhari’s government for implementing such a policy at the time the country was already battling many issues.

Reacting, Kwankwaso said the state leaders reacted that way because the policy had eventually rendered their loot useless.

The NNPP presidential candidate said: “In each state, you have branches of banks, and in some states, you have even the national headquarters of those banks. On the one hand, we thought they (governors) would take all the billions from government houses and so on.

“But we realized these same governors were abusing their leaders, insulting them; I was shocked. I never thought some of them could abuse Buhari to that level.

“On another hand, I was surprised that facts were coming out, and we began to wonder what was wrong with them. Maybe EFCC was right that some governors are keeping billions of naira in their compounds across the country.

“Now the policy has made that looted money completely useless; I think that is why they are angry. So we are so happy with the federal government on that; the money they have collected is completely zero; it has expired.”
