Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu, has shared his experience with the ongoing scarcity of the Naira notes in the country in the face of the 2023 election.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain said he is suffering the same fate as every Nigeria on the Naira crunch. The lawmaker said that due to the current situation, he had no money to cook and could not feed the people under his care.

Kalu admitted that the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) naira swap policy is good but that the apex bank implemented the policy at the wrong time. He said the federal government and the apex bank should have considered the effect of the policy before implementing it at such a time.

The Senate Chief Whip added that he used to give drummers N50k-N100k at events but cannot afford N1,000 now due to the Naira scarcity.

Naira Crunch Won’t Affect Tinubu’s Chances

Speaking on the 2023 general elections and the effect of the naira crunch on his candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kalu said the policy wouldn’t affect the former Governor of Lagos State’s chances of winning the poll.

Kalu also dismissed speculations that there are crises in the APC. He said the only crisis is that the federal government should obey the Supreme Court’s order on the naira policy.

He said that those not supporting Tinubu in APC are not good people. He stressed that he supports the former Governor of Lagos to win the 2023 election.

Kalu, however, refused to speak on the individuals not supporting the APC candidate. Reiterating his support for Tinubu’s candidacy, he said: “I am very obedient to my party and the party is supreme, says Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. Two of my children lived with Tinubu’s wife in Marina House for two years while studying.”
