I Am Shocked APC Govs Can Insult Buhari - Kwankwaso Speaks On Naira Policy
NNPP Presidential Candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso

Former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed shock over the backlash on President Muhammadu Buhari by some governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over the Naira redesign policy.

The presidential candidate of the New Nigerian People Party (NNPP) said it came to him as a surprise to see the APC chieftains knocking the Nigerian leader in that manner for siding with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to have some of the country’s currency notes changed to address some issues including vote buying and money laundering.

Naija News recalls that some APC governors had dragged the federal government, the CBN and the Attorney General of the Federation to court over the new naira redesign policy.

The APC chieftains faulted President Buhari’s government for implementing such a policy at the time the country was already battling many issues.

Reacting, Kwankwaso said the state leaders reacted that way because the policy had eventually rendered their loot useless.

The NNPP presidential candidate said: “In each state, you have branches of banks, and in some states, you have even the national headquarters of those banks. On the one hand, we thought they (governors) would take all the billions from government houses and so on.

“But we realized these same governors were abusing their leaders, insulting them; I was shocked. I never thought some of them could abuse Buhari to that level.

“On another hand, I was surprised that facts were coming out, and we began to wonder what was wrong with them. Maybe EFCC was right that some governors are keeping billions of naira in their compounds across the country.

“Now the policy has made that looted money completely useless; I think that is why they are angry. So we are so happy with the federal government on that; the money they have collected is completely zero; it has expired.

Kwankwaso appealed to security and anti-graft agencies to keep their eyes on the politicians to stop vote buying in any form in the 2023 general elections.

He assured that his party would also assist the federal government, especially on election day to monitor and report vote buyers, Naija News reports.

“Please tell all members of NNPP to join EFCC, to join the police and other security agencies that wherever they see attempts to buy votes, please stop them,” Kwankwaso said.

Old Naira Notes: ‘Ojukwu Didn’t Do Half Of What El-Rufai Has Done’ – Reno Omokri

Meanwhile, a former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has questioned why the Federal Government is silent over the continuous disobedience of the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on the Naira redesign policy.

Naija News earlier reported that Nasir El-Rufai on Sunday insisted on old N500 and N1000 being legal tender in the state.

The governor directed its Ministries, Departments, and Agencies not to reject old naira notes. El-Rufai stated this in a statement released through the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication, Muyiwa Adekeye.

According to the Kaduna State Governor, the old and new naira notes should keep circulating in the state.

He said the directive is in line with the subsisting order of the Supreme Court on the naira notes. However, in a post via Twitter, Reno Omokri averred that Ojukwu did not do half of what El-Rufai has done before General Gowon’s Military Government moved against him.

He further questioned why the country is not moving against the Kaduna State governor for treason.

He said: “Did Ojukwu do up to what El-Rufai had done before General Gowon’s Military Government moved against him?

“Ojukwu didn’t issue the Biafran Pound until January 29, 1968. Yet, Nigeria moved against him. Why is Nigeria my country not moving against El-Rufai for treason?”
