Anthony Joshua Is Ready For Tyson Fury In 2023

Eddie Hearn, the promoter of Anthony Joshua, maintains that the Nigerian-born British boxer is prepared to fight Tyson Fury this year if Fury’s bout with Oleksandr Usyk is postponed.

There were rumours of a Joshua-Fury fight after Anthony Joshua’s second loss to Usyk in August of last year. While Fury eventually faced Derek Chisora during his return to the ring in December 2022, Joshua will face Jermaine Franklin in April 2023.

According to reports, the bout between Fury and Usyk will take place in the same month, but Joshua’s promoter Hearn said the Nigerian-born British boxer is ready to step in if a deal cannot be reached for the Fury-Usyk bout.

In an interview with BBC Sport, Hearn said: “I’m happy to make Joshua and Fury right now for the summer, whether Fury wins or loses against Usyk.

“If the Usyk fight doesn’t get made, our message to team Fury is that we’ll make the fight now, for straight after the Franklin fight. Whatever way Tyson Fury wants to look at it, the fight with Joshua will give him the payday he wants. He wants to make as much money as possible, and rightfully so, he’s a fantastic fighter.

“The fight with Joshua breaks all records. I understand their focus is to make the Usyk fight, but we’re ready if they want Joshua.”

Initially, the plan was that the Fury and Usyk bout will take place in Saudi Arabia. But now, the plan is that the bout will take place at Wembley Stadium in London.

In his reaction to the dramatic change of venue, Hearn claimed that the fighters’ attempts to win support from the Middle East have been hampered by Joshua’s absence.

Hearn said, “They’ve obviously gone to the Middle East to get that money, and failed because Anthony Joshua is not involved in that fight, and now they’ve gone to Wembley.

“I don’t know how they get the numbers that Fury will demand that fight, but if they can, brilliant. Hopefully, for boxing, it gets made because any time there’s an undisputed clash it’s great for the sport.

“It doesn’t matter if they failed in their attempt to secure a big Middle East fight or whatever has happened, it’s tremendous for British boxing if it does come home.”
