New Naira Crisis: Angry Crowd Block Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (Video)

Angry residents in Mowe/Ibafo axis have come out in large numbers to block the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway over the continued scarcity of new Naira notes.

Naija News reports that the protesters, armed with sticks and other weapons, in the early hours of Friday, barricaded the expressway, leading to heavy gridlock on the road on both sides.

The development has made hundreds of motorists to be stranded on the road.

Recall, President Buhari while addressing Nigerians on Thursday said, that the ₦1,000 and ₦5,000 old Naira notes are no longer legal tenders.

The Nigerian leader said only N200 old notes would be acceptable until April 10, when it would seize to be acceptable for transactions.

Following the broadcast, there have been violent protests across the country, particularly within and around Lagos.

Hoodlums had also on Friday morning, stormed major roads in Mile-12, Ketu and Ojota areas, along Ikorodu Road, and Iyana-Ipaja.

Motorists and residents who were on their way to different places of work hurriedly turned back in panic as the rioters went berserk with bonfires set across the road.
