2023: Unknown Gunmen Attack INEC Official, Ad-Hoc Staff In Anambra

Unknown gunmen have reportedly attacked an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other ad-hoc staff at the Ukpor High School in the Nnewi South LGA of Anambra State.

Naija News reports that the Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the attack saying thankfully no life was lost.

The spokesperson for Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident in a statement said the gunmen attacked when the INEC official whose name is withheld and other ad-hoc staff were undergoing training at the Ukpor High School.

Ikenga, however, submitted that a joint security team successfully rescued and prevented the armed men from harming any of the electoral officials.

He stated that “The INEC staff, with some corps members, university undergraduates and some MDA officials on the training programme for Adhoc staff for the forthcoming 2023 General Elections were disrupted by the armed men.

“No life was lost, as [the] joint security team successfully rescued and prevented the armed men from hurting the electoral officials on an assignment at Ukpor High School, Nnewi South LGA.

“Joint security patrols have been intensified in the area and efforts are still ongoing to track down the criminal elements.”

Ikenga, while assuring citizens of safety said the command is empowered enough to tackle any emergency and security concerns, and will ensure a hitch-free 2023 election in the state.
