Wike's Alliance With Tinubu Reason For Withdrawal Of My Petition - Abe
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike speaking during meeting with APC's Bola Tinubu

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday opened up on whether ne would be campaigning for or against the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, to win the 2023 election.

Naija News reports that Tinubu visited Wike on Wednesday at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt joined by prominent APC chieftains, including his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, Governors Abubakar Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi); Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos); David Umahi (Ebonyi); former Ekiti Governor Kayode Fayemi; Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, Tony Okocha and others.

The meeting came right after Tinubu had engaged his supporters in Rivers at the presidential campaign held today at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Elekahia, Port Harcourt.

Speaking during the meeting, Governor Wike lamented the current crisis across Nigerian states and called on the incumbent government of the APC to find an ideal solution to lingering issues immediately.

Relating the current crisis to the forthcoming 2023 election, Wike said: “For the first time I have seen a government procuring opposition to join them to defend their policy. A policy that is anti-people. You are now the ones procuring we (PDP) to defend something that is totally wrong. I have seen anything like this in my life. It is a big shame,” he said.

“Do you people really want this election to take place or not, or you have an agenda to truncate this election? I don’t know. Look at what is happening in Oyo today, Edo, and Delta. See what is going on.

“I saw them even gathering in Port Harcourt and I had to call my Commissioner of Police (CP) and said what is going on? I am not campaigning against you. Neither am I campaigning for you. But the truth must be told.”

In the latter part of the meeting, Wike urged the ruling party to ensure that the forthcoming election holds. Recall that Wike is a card-carrying member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Rivers State Governor is, however, at loggerheads with the national leadership of his party. He and other four governors on the platform of the PDP are protesting Iyorchia Ayu‘s position as the national chairman of the party, seeking his removal and replacement with someone from the South region.

This among others is one of the preconditions of the Wike’s led Integrity group popularly known as the G5, to support former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar‘s candidacy, Naija News reports.
