Peter Obi: Deputy Gov Candidate Of Another Party Decamps To LP

The Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Abia State, Dickson Asonye, has decamped to Labour Party (LP).

The development, which is coming less than nine days before the 2023 election, is considered a welcome development for the ‘Obidient’ movement as the Chairman of the SDP in the state, Chukwudii Abengowe, also joined in decamping.

Reports obtained by Naija News on Thursday (today) revealed that the Abengowe collapsed the SDP structure in the state to support the Labour Party (LP) Governorship Candidate in Abia, Alex Otti.

The defectors were received today by LP executives at the party’s secretariat along Okigwe road in the Aba North Local Government Area of Abia State.

The former SDP chieftains pledged to work for the victory of Otti at the March 11 governorship poll.

Speaking at the event, Asonye said they have handed over the SDP structure and flag of existence to Otti because, in Otti, “They see capacity, brilliance and competence, adding that the LP governorship candidate is the right person they can partner with for the state’s transformation.”

Also, a former spokesperson for the SDP candidate said they have the conviction to collapse the structure for Otti and not because of any monetary induction or personal aggrandizement.

With the development, Otti and LP chieftains believe the party is walking into victory in the governorship election in March 2023.

Some markets visited include the Alaba Naze market, the Timber market, and the Relief market, all in Owerri, the Imo State capital, Naija News reports.

Obi was well received by a massive crowd of supporters at each of the markets visited. The Labour Party candidate also participated in further engagements and town hall meetings at the Landmark Event Centre during his time in Owerri.
